King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted a reception for the Kenyan diaspora in the UK.
The event took place ahead of the monarch and his wife’s trip to Kenya. The reception took place at Buckingham Palace.
The royal family has special memories of Kenya; it was there that Princess Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip were on a trip when news of the death of King George VI arrived in 1952, and his eldest daughter Elizabeth was proclaimed the new queen. She was then 25 years old.
Charles and Camilla are remembering Queen Elizabeth’s special connection to Kenya ahead of their state visit next week.
The King and Queen spoke to professionals from business, media, philanthropy, the arts, sports, government and the military, as well as representatives of their patronages in Kenya.
During the reception, King Charles and Queen Camilla viewed an exhibition of items from the Royal Collection Foundation relating to the British Royal Family’s ties to Kenya, including photographs of the visit of then-Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, writes People.
Years later, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited Kenya again in November 1983 during a 16-day official state tour of Kenya, Bangladesh and India.
At the palace reception, Camilla wore a Fiona Clare leopard print dress with ruffled chest detailing, black tights and black suede Eliot Zed shoes. She wore gold fish earrings, several pendants around her neck and bracelets, including her favorite from Van Cleef & Arpels. Camilla did light makeup and hair. King Charles III wore a light gray striped suit, a white shirt and his favorite pink animal print tie.
Let us remind you that on the eve of the monarch’s birthday, we recalled his quirks.
