King Carl Gustaf still believes his son should have been heir to the throne

– Carl Philip was born a crown prince, and I still think the law can’t be changed retroactively he says inside SVT documentary “The Last Kings of Sweden”.

When Prince Carl Philip was born in 1979, he was intended to be heir to the throne, but the process of amending the constitution was already underway. On January 1, 1980, the succession to the throne was changed. Thus, Carl Philip’s older sister Victoria became heir to the throne with the title of crown princess.

King Carl Gustaf was against the change already when it happened and says in the SVT documentary that he supports it.

– My son was born, and then everything suddenly changed, and he lost everything. He’s quite strange. I think he is unfairsays the king.

Furthermore, King Carl Gustaf says it is difficult with laws that have retroactive effect.

– That doesn’t seem wise. I still think so, she says.
