Kong Carl Gustaf (76) held a speech for the Swedish people on Monday, on the occasion of the Swedish National Day.
At the end of the speech, he came with a blister, it reports Expressen. The king should have wished a good national day, but instead he wished the people a good “Midsummer” – which we here in Norway know as Sankthans.
The king was in place at Skansen in Stockholm to give the solemn speech, which was also broadcast on SVT.
– You might think it’s old-fashioned to hoist a flag. And maybe that’s true. But what the flag stands for is highly topical: Our democracy, King Carl Gustaf said in his speech.
–
He also touched on the situation in Ukraine, and pointed out that the significance of the flag is extra clear when you now see what is happening in the world.
– All this becomes extra clear on the basis of what is now happening in the outside world. Every day we get new pictures from the war in Ukraine – and from other wars and conflicts. It reminds us that peace and freedom can never be taken for granted, said the king.
