PALERMO – Introducing kindness among the sustainable development goals of theAgenda 2030 and insert it as the thirteenth dimension of the “Special Educational Needs” (BES), the indicators of Fair and Sustainable Wellbeing Italians. This is the request that the representatives of Global Kindness Movement they drafted in a programmatic document intended for the Italian Government, the European Parliament and the UN, at the conclusion of the World Kindness Assembly. The event, which took place in Palermo and ended yesterday, saw representatives and inspirers from all over the world – from India to the USA, from Nigeria to Canada – discussing the theme of kindness to demonstrate and ask for it to be recognized as instrument of utility and social justice.
Institutions recognize kindness. “The document addressed to the Italian government, the European Parliament and the UN is the natural objective of this world assembly – explains the Italian president of the Movement, Natalia Re – over the years we have worked to ensure that kindness is considered much more than a gesture and today we are at a turning point, because the perception we have of it is actually changing. It is therefore necessary for the whole society to train in kindness, to integrate it into its tasks and to use it: for this reason we ask that first of all the institutions themselves recognize it as useful, indeed essential”.
“Let’s institutionalize Kindness Day.” In the document sent to the three institutions there is also a request to make it official World Kindness Daywhich was introduced in 1998 by World Kindness Movement but that is still only a custom. “Making the World Kindness Day official is another fundamental point that we ask of the UN – explains Natalia Re – a world day serves to raise awareness throughout society, from governments to communities, shining a light on the topic. Hence our request: we need kindness to be institutionalized.”
