With hand puppets and DRK mascots Henry and Mischi, the Kinderarten children of Villa Kunterbunt learn how to give first aid during the kindergarten year.
The Red Cross leader Stefan Niewerth from Reken was a guest at the DRK day care center Villa Kunterbunt to introduce the children to the basics of first aid. The facility reports. With the help of hand puppets from the DRK mascots Henry and Mischi, the children learn something about the principles and work of the DRK in the current kindergarten year
Stefan Niewerth, who was sure to get the children’s attention just by arriving in the ambulance, had a lot of material with him to clearly explain what to do in an emergency to the children. “You can’t be prepared early enough, and through constant repetition, such processes internalize”, says Anne Penzler, the head of the day care center.
Stable side position
Niewerth first explained the position of the stable side position to the children, according to the institution’s message. He also explained to them the use of a rescue blanket to warm an injured person.
The Red Cross leader also spoke to the children about making an emergency call and which phone number had to be dialed. The children then used a telephone to practice what they would be asked by the headquarters in an emergency and what they should answer, it said.
The highlight was the topic of wound care. Children and teachers practiced with bandages, plasters and triangular cloths. The young first aiders received certificates at the end.
