In an interview for the movie ‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul on the afternoon of the 20th, Kim Yun-seok said, “In ‘Roaring Currents’ and ‘Hansan’, different actors played the roles, but I had to play a great man rather than the burden of being the third Admiral Yi Sun-shin.” “It made me feel more burdened to do it,” he said of his thoughts on the character of Yi Sun-sin.
The movie ‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ (directed by Kim Han-min, provided by Ace Maker Movie Works Co., Ltd. and Lotte Entertainment, distributed by Lotte Entertainment and Ace Maker Movie Works Co., Ltd., and produced by Big Stone Pictures Co., Ltd.) is about the Japanese army trying to retreat from Joseon seven years after the outbreak of the Japanese Invasion of Korea. A war action masterpiece depicting the final battle of Admiral Yi Sun-sin to completely annihilate him.
This is the last part of the Yi Sun-shin Project trilogy, following ‘Roaring Currents’, which was released in July 2014, and ‘Hansan: Appearance of the Dragon’, which was released in July 2022.
Regarding the reason for taking on the role of Yi Sun-shin, “When I talked to director Kim Han-min, he said that there was a side of Yi Sun-shin that he wanted to show in each of ‘Myeongryang’, ‘Hansan’, and ‘Noryang’.” After talking with the director, he said, “I wanted to show this side of Yi Sun-shin in ‘Noryang.’” “I got the feeling that he wanted to draw,” he explained.
Kim Yun-seok played the role of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who commanded the Joseon navy during the Japanese Invasion of Korea and the Jeongyu Jaeran War.
He continued, “I received the offer while I was filming ‘Mogadishu’ in Morocco. “He received the script on his mobile phone and read it,” he added, explaining the process of deciding to appear.
