On the 15th, Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was found guilty in the first trial of violating the Public Official Election Act (one year in prison and two years of probation), and a close associate of the party, Kim Woo-young, expressed his feelings.
He came under controversy for making hateful remarks about ‘judges’ and apologized, but seemed to be aware of the court that found Representative Lee Jae-myung guilty again, and sent a message of criticism to the judges.
▶Rep. Kim Woo-young posted a post on Facebook at around 7:31 pm on this day, starting with “It’s probably not a rebellion against the law.”
He wrote, as if referring to Lee Jae-myeong’s representative court, “It is probably nothing more than an aberration by a judge who gave in to a violent person in power.”
Then, as if referring to Representative Lee Jae-myung’s side, he said, “There is a second trial (appellate trial) and a final trial (3rd trial of the Supreme Court), so there will still be a chance,” and “but it is not as good as a prospect based on good intentions,” as if he were writing poetry or rap. A sentence ending with ‘~ji’ appeared as if it were lyrics.
In a subsequent Facebook post, Rep. Kim Woo-young said, “Regardless of time and place, those in power, those with vested interests who lean on those in power, and that handful of vested interest groups have never once laid down their power. Even if they die or die, those in power do not even blink an eye. After saying, “It’s our nature,” he pointed to the judges. He noted the rulings recorded in the modern history of the Republic of Korea, saying, “There were serious sadists among them, judges who wore solemn judicial caps and gave the death penalty to Kim Dae-jung and indulgence to the rebels. They were not punished.”
Among these, regarding former President Kim Dae-jung, Lee Jae-myeong’s online petition signature website said, “He was sentenced to death by the Chun Doo-hwan regime during the Seoul Spring of 1980,” and “The immediate past presidential candidate, who had a confrontation between the two in the constitutional history of the Republic of Korea, was brought to justice.” It was also mentioned along with the indictment of Representative Lee Jae-myung as “a case.”
Rep. Kim Woo-young said, “The government may be limited, but the legal authority is infinite. But judges, I believe that everyone who knows is aware that the people are the constitution. The nation is the people,” and “Selling the conscience of the law on the side of those in power “Even if we try to kill the suffering opposition leader in the name of the law, the people will never tolerate it,” he said, revealing the nuance that the guilty verdict against Representative Lee Jae-myung would be judged severely by the people.
He concluded his article by saying, “Opportunities do not come in very good circumstances, but are like miracles that bloom in the midst of suffering and punishment.”

▶On October 24th, Rep. Kim Woo-young was embroiled in controversy for his rude remarks to Acting Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission Kim Tae-gyu, who was a judge, during the National Assembly audit, saying, “To the person who used to be a judge.”
Then, six days later, on October 30, Representative Lee Jae-myung issued a stern warning, and the next day, October 31, he resigned from his position as head of the political affairs coordination office of the Democratic Party of Korea.
At the same time, in an article titled ‘Explanation of remarks by a former judge and resignation from party position’ posted by Rep. Kim Woo-young on his Facebook page, he said, “The last bastion of the democratic constitution of the Republic of Korea is the court, and I believe in the conscience of the judges. I am grateful for the hard work of the front line.” “I also apologize to all the judges who are faithful to the conscience of the law in the courtroom,” he said, consoling all the judges in Korea for their hard work and conveying his apology (red photo above). However, after Representative Lee Jae-myeong was found guilty 15 days later, he sent a message of criticism toward all judges in Korea and the behavior of judges in the past.

▶ Regarding Rep. Kim Woo-young’s apology statement, People Power Party Rep. Park Soo-young said, “For Rep. Lee Jae-myeong, who is clearly guilty and wants to minimize the sentence anyway, this is a fatal remark (for Rep. Kim Woo-young’s ‘subject of being a judge’). Probably Rep. Lee Jae-myung “He probably couldn’t even sleep,” he guessed. This means that Rep. Kim Woo-young must have been strongly aware of the concern that his remarks would provoke the judges in charge of Lee Jae-myeong’s trial. That’s why Rep. Kim Woo-young hastily expressed his apology.
However, despite Rep. Kim Woo-young’s apology, or regardless of this apology, Representative Lee Jae-myeong was sentenced to loss of his position as a member of the National Assembly (a fine of more than 1 million won). If we borrow Rep. Park Soo-young’s interpretation framework, Rep. Kim Woo-young changed his attitude and criticized the judges again. One Facebook post can be read as disappointment and anger over the apology not having the expected effect.
