[이데일리 스타in 김보영 기자] “I remember the director’s words while working on post-production for a year and a half, saying, ‘You have a crush on all the actors.’ “Ah, it’s good, I thought the director loved the work so much and made it.”
‘Alien + Human’ (Director Choi Dong-hoon) Part 2 Actor Kim Tae-ri expressed his special affection for the character ‘Ian’ and the work.
Tae-ri Kim was interviewed by reporters at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul ahead of the release of Part 2 of the movie ‘Alien + Humans’ on the morning of the 4th.
Part 2 of ‘Alien + Human’ depicts the story of humans and gurus trying to save everyone by returning to the future as hidden secrets are revealed in the fierce battle for the new sword. It is a sequel to Part 1 of ‘Alien + Humans’, which was released in the summer of 2021. Along with the stronger chemistry between Ryu Jun-yeol, Kim Tae-ri, Kim Woo-bin, Lee Ha-nui, Yeom Jeong-ah, Jo Woo-jin, and Kim Eui-seong, who showed a tight ensemble in Part 1, Jin Seon-gyu, who has solid acting skills, joins Part 2 as the blind swordsman ‘Neungpa’. It injected tension into.
Kim Tae-ri said, “I’ve been waiting for the release of part 2 for a really long time. It seems like they waited with the audience’s heart. “When I saw the completed film through the preview, I was happy that the result was worth the effort I put in for so long,” he said, expressing his thoughts ahead of the release.
Kim Tae-ri plays the role of ‘Ian’, a female protagonist who was trapped in the Goryeo Dynasty for 10 years and heads to the future after recovering the divine sword to protect the Earth against the rebellion of alien prisoners who escaped from human bodies and the explosion of ‘Hava’, an alien atmosphere. unfolded. In Part 2, she plays a brilliant role, leading the main emotional lines and spectacular action scenes from the beginning to the end as the key to solving the secrets and twists that ‘Ian’ was entangled in in Part 1.
Kim Tae-ri said, “The part that summarizes the contents of Part 1 seemed to have been put together so well that even people who had not seen Part 1 could watch Part 2.” He added, “I especially liked the music that played in the ending scene. “It felt like a lot of emotions were condensed into a short period of time thanks to director Choi Dong-hoon’s unique technique,” he said, referring to the scenes he liked. He said, “Actually, there were a lot of things I had to express in Part 2. “There was a breakup,” he said. “But people next to me were joking and I was surprised, so I had to keep my emotions in check and not lose the tension as I watched the alien prisoners escape. Even though that part was very difficult, it was great to see it turned into a movie. It seemed like all emotions were clearly visible along with the music. “I think that’s the power of directing,” he said, praising director Choi Dong-hoon. In fact, the release performance of the first part of ‘Alien + Humans’ did not meet public expectations for a new film by hitmaker director Choi Dong-hoon. From the beginning, the movie was divided into parts 1 and 2, and part 1 was closer to introducing the vast worldview and numerous characters that go back and forth between Goryeo, modern times, and extraterrestrial space and time. It was not enough to feel catharsis as the clues and clues of major events were solved in Part 2, and it faced harsh criticism for failing to show the full value and value of the characters. Although it was released during the pandemic in 2021, contrary to expectations, it failed at the box office, attracting only 1.53 million viewers. However, the second part, which was unveiled through the preview, received favorable reviews and is aiming for a rebound.
Regarding the mixed reactions that Part 1 received, Kim Tae-ri said, “Everyone who participated in this work must have analyzed (the reason for the failure). “I thought a lot about why I did that and how I should greet the audience in Part 2,” he said. “My personal thoughts were, what would it be like if Part 1 and Part 2 were released together? “I personally think that there were too many mysteries in Part 1 and that it may have been disappointing that those mysteries were not resolved,” he added with his honest thoughts.
Satisfaction with Part 2 was also evident. Kim Tae-ri said, “I think this second episode satisfies everything, and all the foreshadowing we had laid down was released in an interesting flow.”
He also mentioned the complex emotional changes and the burden he felt as the character who held the key to the twist in the second half. He said, “If I were to tell you how great my fear was before filming the second half, I was really scared. I wondered what to do. “Because I had to do something I had never seen before.”
He was also impressed by the rapid growth in film technology over the year and a half between Part 1 and Part 2. Kim Tae-ri said, “It was so realistic that I couldn’t tell which was CG and which was real,” and “I thought that there had been a lot of technological growth in Part 2 during that time, and that technology had developed rapidly.”
Regarding his action sequences, which have improved from the first part, he said, “I’m not extremely good at it, but I really enjoy using my body. “I talked a lot with the martial arts director and of course we practiced a lot in the beginning,” he said. “When it comes to action, I find the process of showing emotions and such depending on how you use your body rather than just the action itself being fun. Also, as you can see from the movie, each character has a different action style. The actions of the Taoists, the actions of Min-gae, and the actions of the monsters are all different. Observing such things is also a fun experience. “I learned a lot,” he said.
At the press conference following the preview of ‘Alien + Humans’, he also shared the feelings he felt when looking at director Choi Dong-hoon, who appeared to be in tears over his hardships. Kim Tae-ri said, “Yesterday, the director was in tears, and I felt very sad because I could feel the hardships he had gone through. Still, I felt good because the movie came out so well. “I think that’s why he was even more upset,” he said.
He also spoke about the external and internal growth he experienced after meeting director Choi Dong-hoon on set. Tae-ri Kim said, “I think I’ve come to treat movies with much more affection. “When I talk with director Choi Dong-hoon, I get the thought, ‘This person loves this work and treats it with sincerity, and he really likes movies.’” He added, “I, too, am functioning properly in it, like a toy horse sitting in it.” I just wish I could do it. “It was a place where I had fun and hoped that this person’s enjoyable play would end well together,” he expressed his respect.
He continued, “Especially while working on ‘Alien+Human’ parts 1 and 2, I thought that this person really loves movies. “I think the director’s attitude and values have seeped into me whether I know it or not,” he said. “I also felt a little bit of the romance of director Choi Dong-hoon’s movies. “It’s a process of doing my best to create something I love so much,” he added.
Meanwhile, Part 2 of ‘Alien + Humans’ will be released on January 10th.
