Kim Sejeong is known for her success in the Produce 101 event. After debuting as a member of IOI, she gained popularity until finally debuting with the girl group gugudan. It turns out that when she was offered to join Produce 101, Sejeong firmly refused.
In an episode of the KBS2 variety show, Problem Child In House, Sejeong explained the reason. At that time, he felt he had worked hard with fellow trainees who were members of the group project which later debuted as gugudan.
If she accepts the offer to join Produce 101, Sejeong feels that she will disrupt the debut preparation process for the trainees who are part of the team with her. Among all the Jellyfish Entertainment trainees who were attracted to join Produce 101, only Sejeong seemed the most resistant to joining.
“The director (Produce 101) came to our management to choose which trainees they would invite to join. I actually had no desire,” said Sejeong.
“At that time I had joined the ‘debut team’, I was with the trainees who later debuted with gugudan. So in my mind, our team activities would be disrupted if I joined Produce 101. The director continued to interview each trainee and in the last question, “I said I don’t need to take part in this event because I trust the current members of my debut team,” explained Sejeong again.
Apparently the answer given by the singer of Top or Cliff intrigued the director of Produce 101. It was Sejeong’s strong stance that ultimately made the director insist on recruiting her to be part of the 101 trainees who would compete on the show.
Luckily, in the end, Sejeong’s heart melted. He joined Produce 101 and successfully debuted as a member of IOI and then gugudan. After gugudan disbanded, Sejeong is now active as a soloist and is also known as an actress. The Korean drama Business Proposal was very popular some time ago.
Now Sejeong has just released her first full solo album entitled Door. The song Top or Cliff is a mainstay on this album. The MV for this song is made into an epic style of the film Ready or Not. Sejeong, wearing a white wedding dress, tried to escape from being confined in a luxury house, armed with a firearm.
