Kim Sang-gyeom (32, High1 Resort), the eldest brother of the Korea Snowboarding Alpine National Team, achieved the achievement of fourth place in the World Championships.
Kim Sang-gyeom took 4th place in the men’s parallel round at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Alpine World Championships held in Rogla, Slovenia on the 1st. The fourth place in the world snowboarding championship is the best performance ever in Korea.
Kim Sang-gyeom, who succeeded in advancing to the quarterfinals twice in the 2020-2021 World Cup, continued to rise in this tournament. In the first leg of the preliminary round, he scored 31 seconds 35 in the red course and 31 seconds 58 in the second leg of the preliminary round, ranking 9th with a total of 1 minute, 2 seconds and 93, and advanced to the round of 16 tournament.
Kim Sang-gyeom’s opponent in the round of 16 was Italian powerhouse Mirco Felicetti (7th in the world ranking). Felicetti is the main character who won two bronze medals in the World Cup this season. Even in an unfavorable environment where there is no course option, Kim Sang-gyeom advanced to the quarterfinals confidently by defeating Felicetti by 0.61 seconds.
In the quarter-final, Poland’s Novachik Mikal (19th in the world ranking) played in a somewhat unfavorable red course. It was unfolding in a way that followed Mikal until the middle, and the defeat was dark, but he accelerated ahead of the finish line, gaining a reverse win by only 0.02 seconds and climbed to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, he fell short of Italy’s absolute power, Roland Fishnaler from the beginning, and the 3rd and 4th place decisions that followed did not exceed Russia’s Andrei Sobolev (9th in the world rankings) and finished in fourth place.
Kim Sang-gyeom, who finished the competition, said, “I was worried about Corona 19, but thanks to the support of the national team coach, Korea Ski Association, and High1 Resort, I think I came to this place.” I want to give a great meaning to being seen.”
Meanwhile, Sang-ho Lee (High1 Resort), who participated with Kim Sang-gyeom, finished 14th in the preliminary round and finished in the round of 16, but was defeated by 0.15 seconds in the round of 16 with Sobolef and could not get to the quarter-finals.
