Kim Kardashian Sparkles in Pearl-Immersion Look at Met Gala Honoring Karl Lagerfeld

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Given the late designer Karl Lagerfeld’s love for pearls, Kim Kardashian’s look at his honoring ceremony with the “Met Gala” was sparkling.

Kardashian said of her Schiaparelli-designed look during the live broadcast of VOGUE from the red carpet on Monday night, that she “thought … what embodies Karl the most?” And she continued, “You know, the iconic Chanel pearls are what I always thought of. That’s why we wanted (my look to be) immersed in pearls.”

A wheat-colored corset was decorated with many ropes of pearls hanging over it, and more of these ropes hung over Kardashian’s long skirt. While her outfit was hailed as a chic example of the trend among party guests, some social media users compared her look to Kardashian’s semi-nude photoshoot during the first season of her reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Members of the Kardashian-Jenner family have been mainstays at the Met Gala in recent years. And at last year’s event, Kardashian made headlines when she wore a Marilyn Monroe dress when she sang “Happy Birthday” to US President John F. Kennedy, in 1962.

And her appearance at the Met Gala 2021 was no less exciting, as she wore a “faceless” dress by Balenciaga, covering her completely in black, from head to toe.

The ceremony was attended by Kardashian’s two sisters from her mother, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, this year. Kylie wore a bright red dress by Jean Paul Gaultier under a red and blue oversized coat, both of which were designed by Heider Ackermann.

Kendall, who walked the runways of Chanel Lagerfeld on multiple occasions, wore a tight black Marc Jacobs shirt with long sleeves and black knee-high boots.

“Karl has been my hero since I was 17, looking at Chloe’s collections,” Jacobs said in a live broadcast to Vogue during a subsequent interview.

Of Lagerfeld’s “unbridled creativity” and disregard for limitations, Jacobs added that “he was, for me, the real fashion designer”.
