Kim Kardashian: Judge dismisses part of Blac Chyna case against reality TV star

A judge has dismissed part of the case against Kim Kardashian in the trial of former reality TV star Blac Chyna as the jury continues its deliberations.

Judge Gregory Alarcon ruled that Chyna’s lawyer, Lynne Ciani, did not provide any statement during the trial of Kardashian it was defamatory of Chyna.

The case against Kardashian for interference with a contract stands.

The jury is out on that and the defamation and interference with contracts cases against Kris Jenner, Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.

Jurors returned home on Friday without reaching a verdict after their first full day of deliberations.

Their instructions had to be changed after the Kim Kardashian decision, and the lawyers and the judge answered several questions they submitted.

They are to meet on Monday.

Chyna sues the Kardashian family for $100 million (£77million), accusing them of defaming her and convincing producers and the E! network to cancel a 2016 Keeping Up With the Kardashians spin-off show titled Rob & Chyna.

The court case largely focused on a fight between Chyna and Rob Kardashian on December 15, 2016, which led to the couple’s eventual breakup and the show’s cancellation.

Ms Ciani argued during oral arguments on Thursday that the women had no reason to believe the attack had happened, as eyewitness accounts, photos and videos from the time showed no significant injuries to Rob Kardashian.

“He had no marks on him,” Ms Ciani said. “There was no call to the police, no trip to the hospital, not even a bandage. »

Kardashian attorney Michael G Rhodes argued during his closing remarks that women have every reason to believe the accounts of the attack on Rob Kardashian and Kris Jenner’s longtime boyfriend Corey Gamble. , who ended the argument and was a key defense witness.

“Do you remember how Rob looked yesterday at the helm? His pain was real,” Mr Rhodes said.

“It’s a real family. Yeah, they’re famous, but they’re real people. He was very seriously injured here. »

Ms. Ciani provided sample text and email statements from Kris Jenner, Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, telling the show’s producers and E! network, on which the show appeared, about the abuse allegation.

But the case she made against Kim Kardashian was not so clear cut.

After the judge read his instructions to the jury on Thursday, Mr Rhodes stressed that there were no potentially defamatory statements from Kim Kardashian.

In the civil case, nine of 12 jurors will have to agree on whether three of the Kardashian defendants knowingly lied about Chyna abusing Rob Kardashian, or spoke about it with reckless disregard for the truth.

The same number will have to decide if each of the four illegally interfered with Chyna’s contract with E! network.
