Citing reports DailyNK, Saturday (12/09/2020), five Ministry of Economy officials were executed by firing squad on July 30, 2020 after details of their conversation criticizing the government’s economic policies appeared at a dinner party and reported to their superiors. The five officials openly discussed the need for industrial reform in the communist country, which produces few consumer goods for its poor citizens.
They also discussed the need North Korea seeking foreign cooperation to help overcome devastating trade sanctions.
They even expressed concern that the stagnant economy will get worse if improvements are not carried out immediately.

The five men, whom the government considers highly competent officials within the ministry, were summoned to a meeting where they were arrested by the secret police and forced to admit to tarnishing the regime’s image.
In addition, there are other reports that their families were transferred to a political prison camp of station 15 in Yodeok, Hamgyeongnam-do, one of the country’s most famous sites for political dissidents.
The execution worries Labor Party officials who fear a revival of the “purges” that swept the country after the death of former Supreme Leader Kim Jong-il in 2011. Meanwhile, Kim Jong-un made a rare appearance in public after reports of his regime executing five critics appeared in the media. Government media, KCNA, on Saturday (12/09/2020), reported the young leader inspected reconstruction work in a flood-stricken area in Unpha, North Hwanghae Province.
A series of typhoons and rain have hit parts of the country in recent weeks. “Kim said the North Korean economy has faced problems and pressures due to the massive damage caused by heavy rains and recent typhoons,” he wrote. KCNA.
