Pyongyang –
During the test firing of North Korea’s ‘Hwasong-17’ ballistic missile, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was present accompanied by his daughter. This is Kim’s first time taking her son out in public. North Korea’s KCNA news agency reported on Saturday (11/19) that Kim was present at the test firing of the missile “with his beloved wife and children”.
The photo released by the main North Korean newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, according to observers is the first official confirmation that Kim has a daughter. There is no further information about Kim’s daughter’s name and age.
So far it has been said that Kim and his wife, Ri Sol Ju, whom he married in 2009, have three children born in 2010, 2013 and 2017.
The photo has attracted attention because it shows the fourth generation of the family dynasty that has ruled North Korea for seven decades. It was previously rare for North Korean media to show Kim’s children.
North Korea launches Hwasong-17 as a warning to the United States
The North Korean leader oversaw the launch of the missile on Friday, which KCNA said was a Hwasong-17. Analysts have dubbed it a “monstrous missile”. KCNA said the launch of the “new type of ICBM” was successful.
Kim said the test of a newly developed ICBM confirmed that Pyongyang has another weapon that is “reliable and of the highest capacity” to withstand external threats.
The North Korean leader warned the United States and its allies that what he called their provocative move would lead to “their self-destruction,” state media said after the launch.
