Jakarta –
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a message to Donald Trump after the US president was declared infected with the Corona virus. Kim wished Trump a speedy recovery.
“He (Kim) conveyed his sympathy to the president and first lady,” said the official news agency of North Korea, KCNA as reported by AFP, Saturday (3/10/2020).
“He really hopes that they will recover soon. He hopes they can definitely handle it. He sends them warm greetings,” added KCNA.
South Korean news agency Yonhap said this was the first time Kim had sent congratulations to a world leader who had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Earlier, Trump announced Friday (2/10) that he had tested positive for COVID-19. Later that day, he was taken to a military hospital for observation and further treatment.
Trump and Kim have held three important meetings starting in June 2018, following the escalation of tensions between Washington and Pyongyang at the start of Trump’s term.
But nothing concrete has emerged when it comes to Pyongyang’s denuclearization, and talks have officially stalled for months.
Trump has consistently described his close relationship with Kim as one of his foreign policy accomplishments.
