PYONGYANG – North Korean leader (North Korea) Kim Jong-un appears to have experienced dramatic weight loss when he spoke at a meeting of the ruling Labor Party. Kim’s physique has felt more ramping in the last few months in the middle lack of food reported.
Kim spent this week chairing a plenary meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, the communist country’s only party. Although he often uses such meetings to announce major policy decisions, usually related to the country’s nuclear program or its ties to South Korea or the United States (US). But according to government officials, this year’s meeting is aimed at the unclear goal of guiding the struggle of the Party and our people to the next stage of victory.
Kim has not made a public statement since the meeting which began on Monday (12/27), but Kim’s photos have caught the public’s attention due to his apparently rapid weight loss.

Kim is about 170 cm tall and was once reported to have weighed 130 kg, according to South Korean estimates – a measurement that would place him as obese on the BMI (Body Mass Index) scale. However, Kim has continued to lose weight since the start of the year, with North Korean state media in June describing his weight loss as disappointing the nation and making him look “thin.”
