Kim Jong-un Reveals Reasons For Sudden Weight Loss, Eat Less For The Country : Okezone News

PYONGYANG North Korean leader (North Korea) Kim Jong-un appears to have experienced dramatic weight loss when he spoke at a meeting of the ruling Labor Party. Kim’s physique has felt more ramping in the last few months in the middle lack of food reported.

Kim spent this week chairing a plenary meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, the communist country’s only party. Although he often uses such meetings to announce major policy decisions, usually related to the country’s nuclear program or its ties to South Korea or the United States (US). But according to government officials, this year’s meeting is aimed at the unclear goal of guiding the struggle of the Party and our people to the next stage of victory.

Kim has not made a public statement since the meeting which began on Monday (12/27), but Kim’s photos have caught the public’s attention due to his apparently rapid weight loss.

Kim is about 170 cm tall and was once reported to have weighed 130 kg, according to South Korean estimates – a measurement that would place him as obese on the BMI (Body Mass Index) scale. However, Kim has continued to lose weight since the start of the year, with North Korean state media in June describing his weight loss as disappointing the nation and making him look “thin.”

Severe flooding and supply problems due to the coronavirus pandemic have reportedly caused food shortages in North Korea, with the closure of the communist state’s border with China further exacerbating the problem. According to some Western media reports, the government, notoriously tight-lipped about the country’s internal struggles, appears to have acknowledged the issue, stating that Kim is eating less “for the sake of the country.”

Another report by a previous Western outlet claimed that Kim instructed his citizens this summer to prepare for adversity, comparing the country’s situation at the time to the ‘Hard March’ of the 1990s, a period of economic crisis and famine.

Earlier this month, Kim marked ten years in power, having taken over following his father’s death in 2011. In that time he has defied international sanctions and has continued to develop the country’s ballistic missile program. Despite meeting former US President Donald Trump on numerous occasions, he made no real progress toward nuclear disarmament and did not win an easing of US sanctions in return.
