North Korea (North Korea) claims to have successfully launched spy satellite first into space orbit, and promises to launch more in the near future. The launch of Pyongyang’s spy satellite was carried out under direct supervision by the leader of the communist regime, Kim Jong Un.
As reported ReutersWednesday (22/11/2023), North Korea’s official news agency, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), reported that the Malligyong-1 satellite was successfully launched with a Chollima-1 rocket from the Sohae satellite launch facility on Tuesday (21/11) evening, at around 22.42 local time.
North Korea’s National Aerospace Technology Authority, as quoted by KCNA, said the satellite successfully entered orbit at 22.54 local time.
The KCNA report stated that Kim Jong Un personally observed and supervised the satellite launch.
KCNA also stated in its report that the North Korean space agency will send several other spy satellites in the near future, to continue to secure its surveillance capabilities over South Korea (South Korea) and other areas of interest to the North Korean Armed Forces.
“The launch of a surveillance satellite is a legitimate right (for North Korea) to strengthen its self-defense capabilities,” KCNA stressed in its report.
KCNA also emphasized that this launch would increase Pyongyang’s military readiness to face ‘dangerous military movements’ from North Korea’s enemies.
North Korean authorities have notified Japan First, regarding the plan to launch a satellite between Wednesday (22/11) and 1 December, after two similar attempts ended in failure at the beginning of this year.
