The North Korean leader, Kim Jong-unhas supervised test launches of new 240-millimeter projectiles for multiple rocket launchers, a weapon with which it could hit targets in the neighboring Seoul.

The state agency KCNA reported today, Friday, that the day before Kim witnessed the tests in the company of members of the central committee of the single party such as Pak Jong Chonformer member of the Presidium, or Jo Chun-ryongwhich has played an important role in the development of ammunition for the regime, in addition to Kim Jong-sikdeputy director of the party’s Munitions Industry Department.

Also present was Ko Pyong-hyon, president of the Second Economic Commission, a key body in North Korea’s weapons of mass destruction development programs and on which a “newly founded national defense industrial company” that has developed this new type of rocket.

KCNA considered that through the test “the flight specifications and the success rates and concentration of the projectile were evaluated in a completely satisfactory manner.”

Kim stated in turn that “the 240 millimeter caliber multiple rocket launcher system, in which new technology has been applied, will produce a strategic change by strengthening the artillery of the Korean People’s Army.”

In February, North Korea reported a first test of these 240-millimeter “controllable” projectiles for multiple rocket launchers that are believed to be able to precisely hit the South Korean capital region, which is located a few kilometers from the demilitarized zone that divides both Koreas, technically at war for more than 70 years.

At the same time, many analysts consider that the regime seems to be promoting the development of projectiles of this type in order to also supply them to other countries, such as Russia.

Last year Pyongyang y Moscow They sealed a military cooperation pact and it is known that North Korea has supplied artillery and missiles for the Russian army to use in the war against Ukraine. EFE (I)
