Leader of North Korea (North Korea) Kim Jong Un creating a hot situation in the middle of plans for joint military exercises between the United States (US) and South Korea (ROK). Kim Jong UN asked his military to engage in war exercises.
Reporting from AFP, Friday (10/3/2023), Kim Jong Un ordered the North Korean military to intensify exercises for “real war”. This order was conveyed by Kim while supervising missile tests.
Photos released on Friday by North Korea’s official KCNA news agency show Kim and his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, accompanied by uniformed officers. They witnessed an artillery unit fire a missile on Thursday (9/3) local time.
At least six missiles were fired by the Hwasong artillery unit, which it said was trained for “strike missions”.
Kim Presents 2 Strategic Missions
While supervising the missile test, Kim told soldiers to prepare for “two strategic missions, namely, firstly preventing war and secondly taking the initiative in war”, according to KCNA.
Kim said North Korean military units should “continue to intensify various simulation exercises for real war in various ways under different situations.”
US-South Korea Joint Exercises
The drills come as South Korea and the United States prepare to begin joint drills. The exercise was billed as the biggest exercise in five years.
The North Korean government has repeatedly protested joint US-South Korean military exercises. North Korea calls the joint drills a rehearsal for invasion.
According to experts, the North Korean Air Force is the weakest link in its military, and the drills highlight strategies to compensate for that.
“North Korea’s latest exercise, like many before it, had the objective of blocking the South Korean (warplanes) from taking off,” An Chan-il, a defector turned researcher who runs the World Institute for North Korea Studies, told AFP.
