Kim Jong-min and Hong Young-pyo’s late-night meeting raises concerns about Democratic Party defections to ‘new party of Lee Nak-yeon’

Lee’s side, Kim Jong-min and Hong Young-pyo meet in the middle of the night and react with reservations to join target lawmakers

As it is known that the bottom 20% of active members of the Democratic Party include a large number of pro-Moon (pro-Moon Jae-in) and other non-affiliated members, there is a prediction that some of the bottom 20% evaluators may leave the Democratic Party and join New Mirae, the ‘new party of Lee Nak-yeon’.

According to Dong-A Ilbo’s coverage on the 20th, Rep. Hong Young-pyo (4th term), who is considered the pro-Moon leader of the Democratic Party, reportedly had a late-night meeting with Kim Jong-min, a member of New Future, the day before. It is said that Representative Kim persuaded Rep. Hong, who was active in candidate Lee Nak-yeon’s camp during the last presidential election, to leave the Democratic Party and join New Future. Representative Kim is a member of the Democratic Party who left the Democratic Party and is considered a pro-Moon lawmaker.

A New Future official said, “As there are rumors that Rep. Hong is in the bottom 20% of the Democratic Party, there is considerable concern about the current Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung’s system.” He added, “Responsible member Kim asked Rep. Hong to leave the Democratic Party and work together to form a third zone.” “I understand that you proposed to make efforts to expand ,” he said. However, it is known that Representative Hong did not give a definitive answer to Representative Kim’s request.

In addition, New Future was found to have consistently sent ‘love calls’ to Rep. Kim Young-joo (4th term), a former vice-chairman of the National Assembly, and Rep. Seol Hoon (5th term) of the Donggyo-dong faction, who left the Democratic Party in protest against the notification of the bottom 20% the previous day.

However, as the third zone, including New Future, has suffered a setback, lawmakers who are eligible for inclusion are showing reservations. A senior lawmaker who received an offer from New Future to join said in a phone call, “The third zone is currently in a state of disrepair and is not attractive.” One pro-Moon member of the Democratic Party said, “From the perspective of a strong-willed non-partisan, I will consider whether going to the third zone or running as an independent will be helpful for this general election and my future political career.”
