After the successful season in the Superettan and the early promotion to the Allsvenskan, head coach Robin Asterhed, 34, looked to extend with IFK Värnamo.
But that did not happen.
Instead of following up to the Allsvenskan, Asterhed returns to Malmö FF where he becomes the club’s new manager scout.
Now Värnamo has finished with replacements. Kim Hellberg leaves the assignment as assistant coach in IFK Norrköping to join Jonas Thern in Värnamo.
For Värnamo news The club’s sports director Håkan Söderberg justifies the choice of a new coach.
– To continue the continuity of the leadership we have built up over a number of years. In part, it’s about the football we want to play and stand for and that’s exactly what Kim stands for. And partly that we want a young, hungry coach who wants to move forward in his career. To continue to go that route with a young hungry coach that we tested. Then we have a little routine ourselves. Hehe, he tells the newspaper.
Lacks experience as head coach in the Allsvenskan
The 33-year-old has never before been head coach at the Allsvenskan level and recently finished his Uefa Pro training. Jonas Thern lacks an education and has no plans to get one.
– I think he will do well. It feels like they will get along very well together. They stand for the same think and the same idea. Just as Robin (Asterhed) and Jonas have enjoyed each other a lot, I think these two will have it too. We are really looking forward to having Kim with us, says Håkan Söderberg about the team’s new coaching duo.
The sports director also reveals to the newspaper that Kim Hellberg was the club’s first choice.
The contract is written for two years.
