Kills Indonesian domestic workers for cheating, Bangladeshi men face death penalty page all

GEYLANG, KOMPAS.com – A man Bangladesh 31 years old killed his Indonesian girlfriend because of an affair.

They had been dating for 6 years and were about to get married, then the Bangladeshi man’s emotions were ignited when he learned that his future wife had cheated on him twice and did not want to end his affair.

Reported The Straits Times Tuesday (9/15/2020), the perpetrator can be sentenced to death for his actions.

The man named Ahmed Salim was tried in the High Court Singapore, for killing a domestic worker ( PRT) Nurhidayati Wartono Surata, at the Golden Dragon Hotel room in Geylang, Singapore, on the evening of December 30, 2018.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Hay Hung Chun accused Ahmed of intending to kill Nurhidayati, who was 34 at the time, on the grounds that the perpetrator carried a rope when he met that day.

“He has kept the rope since discovering his new relationship on December 9 2018,” Deputy Public Prosecutor Hay Hung Chun said. The Straits Times.

But Ahmed’s lawyer Eugene Thuraisingam argues that his client has been provoked by the woman who allegedly said, “Other men are better than you in bed and better off financially.”

Nurhidayati also said he threatened to make a video in the following week if Ahmed did not believe it. The lawyer then claimed that Ahmed was mentally ill, so his sentence should be commuted

But the deputy public prosecutor dismissed Ahmed’s claim by saying the word was “made-up” and the perpetrator was not eligible for sentencing.

In November 2017 they agreed to get married in December 2018.

But in mid-2018 Nurhidayati met a Bangladeshi plumber named Shamin Shamizur Rahman, whom he met once a month on Sunday.

Ahmed suspected his future wife was cheating on him and he got into a fight with her. After Nurhidayati admitted she was dating another man, Ahmed told his mother in Bangladesh to find another wife.

Soon Ahmed and Nurhidayati reconciled and continued their relationship, but fought again because of her affair with a different man.

It was reported that Nurhidayati was having an affair again, this time with Bangladesh general Hanifa Mohammad Abu in October and early November 2018. Nurhidayati told the general that she had a potential husband, but promised to break it off.

Then on 9 December 2018 she told Ahmed about her new boyfriend, and said she had to return to Bangladesh to take care of her marriage.

Murder Nurhidayati happened on December 30, 2018. Ahmed, who was staying with her at the hotel, repeatedly threatened to kill her if she didn’t cut ties with her new boyfriend.

“When the deceased refused, the defendant brutally choked him with a towel around his neck,” said the deputy public prosecutor.

Ahmed then paid 30 Singapore dollars (Rp 326,000), taken from Nurhidayati, to pay for the extension check-out 2 hours to reception. He also took out his cell phone, EZ-link card, and headed home to his dormitory at Sungei Central Lodge.

There he handed over about 1,000 Singapore dollars (IDR 10.88 million) to his roommate, Khalik Md Abdul, and told him to send the money to his father. Ahmed also told the Khalik he had killed someone.

Nurhidayati’s body was found around 10:15 pm by the hotel receptionist.

The autopsy showed the cause of death from strangulation and cervical spine injury.

Ahmed was arrested at around 10:45 p.m. on December 31, 2018.

Institute of Mental Health psychiatrist Christopher Cheok found Ahmed had a psychiatric disorder, but said it had nothing to do with it murder.

Ahmed’s lawyer said he would call private psychiatrist Ken Ung to say that the psychiatric disturbance had contributed to Ahmed’s actions.

The trial of this case is still continuing.
