The 56-year-old was transported to hospital and underwent surgery. The next day, he died of his injuries, the hospital in Maui confirms to CNN.
After the attack, the authorities have published several photos of the surfboard on social media. The pictures show large bite marks on the board, and one of the marks is measured at 43 cm.

Postpones surfing competition
This week, a surfing competition was held, “World Surf League – women’s professional surfing competition”, in the same area as the accident. After the attack, the competition was postponed indefinitely.
The man who died in the shark attack had no connection to the surfing competition, nor was he a professional surfer, writes CNN.
On Wednesday, the organizer announced that they are working on moving the remaining rounds to an alternative beach. On Thursday, they shared a photo to show their condolences to the deceased’s family and friends:
