Killed and Mutilated: The Two Defendants Accuse Each Other

(ANSA) – GENOA, SEPTEMBER 26 – Blame and cross-accusations between the two defendants accused of killing Mahmoud Abdalla, the 19-year-old barber murdered in Genoa and mutilated in July 2023 before being thrown into the sea in Chiavari. During the trial this morning, the depositions of the two employers Abdelwahab Ahmed Gamal Kamel, known as Tito, and Mohamed Ali Abdelghani Ali, known as Bob, were heard. According to prosecutor Daniela Pischetola, the two killed the boy because he had decided to go work in another shop and report them to the unions for the grueling shifts and low pay. “Tito first stabbed him to death in front of me in the apartment in Genoa Sestri Ponente, then in Chiavari he cut off his head and hands,” is the version of Bob who reiterated his innocence. “Tito threatened me, he has a lot of money, he threatened me and my family in Egypt”, he added, claiming that for this reason he helped him get rid of the body. Tito instead unloaded the blame on Bob’s brother, who owned the barber shop in via Merano and who remained in Egypt after the murder. He was, Tito said, the instigator of the murder. “I have never had problems with Mahmoud”, he declared to the judges of the Assize Court (president Massimo Cusatti). “Bob punched Mahmoud in the eye, who protected himself with his hands and went towards the kitchen, so I intervened. There were two knives in the kitchen and Mahomoud took one, the one Bob had brought home. We fell and when we fell, the knife got stuck. Then Bob pulled the knife out and started hitting him”. The next hearing is set for October 8. (ANSA).
