Kilauea volcano erupted in Hawaii

Honolulu. The Kilauea volcano erupted in the US state of Hawaii. The US earthquake monitoring station USGS said on Wednesday (local time) that the development affects the Halemaumau crater at the summit of the volcano on the Big Island. Recordings from a webcam showed lava at the bottom of the crater and rising gas clouds. The volcano is located in a national park; the area is not inhabited.

Last Kilauea eruption in 2018

The warning level of the volcano has been raised to “Warning” and the aviation code has been changed to red. The authorities had previously announced that increased earthquake activity and ground swelling had been detected. The alert levels have been increased accordingly.

Kilauea last erupted on a larger scale in 2018. At that time, more than 700 houses were destroyed and thousands of residents were displaced. Before the big eruption in 2018, Kilauea had been active since 1983, and lava flows occasionally hit farms and homes. During this time, the lava sometimes reached the ocean and brought the sea to a boil.
