A meeting was held today by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection for the timely preparation of the state mechanism in the field of flood protection with the participation of regional governors and regional representatives.
Mr. Kikilias preliminarily emphasized that vigilance is needed as the fire protection season has not yet ended and high temperatures and heat are still prevailing. Regarding the preparation for winter, he called “very satisfactory the recording of the progress of the projects in the regions both in terms of execution and in terms of the development of the studies and procedures.
The goal, as he said, is “to coordinate, but also to help this effort”, while he pointed out the flooding phenomena, such as the bad weather “Boris” that recently hit Central and Eastern Europe, stressing that “the climate crisis is here and it does not give room for sloppiness and for mistakes and for disorganization”.
“So we will do together with you, everything that is humanly possible, organized, professionally and on time, in order to permanently reduce the chances of having problems in any climate flare-up” he emphasized and added saying that “we experienced it in our country last year with Daniel.”
Deputy Minister Evangelos Tournas, for his part, spoke about the fire fighting season which has not yet ended and asked all agencies to be ready and prepare for floods as well, asking for the update of the “DARDANOS” flood response plan.
The general secretary of Civil Protection Vassilis Papageorgiou, the chief of the Fire Department Theodoros Vagias also participated in the meeting, while the regions were represented as follows:
