The number eight in the world opens on Friday at the Zuiderpark Sports Campus in The Hague the crucial encounter with Belarus against Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Bertens has been struggling with pain in her Achilles tendon since the beginning of 2020. Last week she had an injection made to suppress the pain. Even though the 28-year-old Dutch would rather have kept that information to himself.
