CULTURE
“Kikeriki”, Austria’s first short film festival for children from the age of three, will be held in the Kunstwerkstatt Tulln until July 2nd. Age-appropriate short films are shown every Thursday and Sunday. Afterwards, workshops invite you to take part.
The smell of popcorn is in the air when you enter the Kunstwerkstatt Tulln – it smells like cinema. And big cinema for the little ones is also offered. To start with, four different short film projects on the topic “What’s growing there?” were shown on Thursday. In a playful way, the young visitors were introduced to interesting facts from the world of plants and allotment gardens.
Participation stations on the film topic
After the film screenings, a large handicraft station invites you to take part on each festival day. There, the previously experienced can be processed creatively, for example when painting pictures. The hands-on stations are always thematically adapted to the respective short films.
According to festival director Lisa Mai, there was still a lack of a film festival specifically for children in the cultural sector. That’s why she launched “Kikeriki” last year. “It was long overdue. With short films, in this short, condensed form, whole worlds simply unfold. And that works just as well for children as it does for adults,” says Mai. Musician Christoph Schwarz has also been on board from the start. Together with Lisa Mai he leads through the colorful film afternoons.
Thursday and Sunday is “Cinema Day”
Short film screenings for children are on the program at Kunstwerkstatt Tulln every Thursday and Sunday until July 2nd. In the coming weeks, film afternoons on “Cooking Recipes from Another Planet”, “Cinema Dances in Shimmering Colors” or “Enchanting Mythical Creatures” can be seen, among other things. “Start filming!” is always the motto at 4:30 p.m. (Thursday) or 3:30 p.m. (Sunday).
