Kiev calls on UN to explain delay in Iran drone investigation

Ukraine and its partners have called on the United Nations to send an expert mission to investigate drones used by Russia against Ukraine, the minister said.

“It’s not just a mission. The essence of the matter is that the delivery of Iranian-made drones to Russia violates the 2015 UN Security Council resolution, which strengthened the nuclear deal with Iran,” he said emphasized Kuleba.

According to what he said, on 14 October Ukraine presented a request to the UN to send the mission.

As the minister said, the secretariat offered two dates in November, and one of these dates has already been agreed, but the UN later informed that “it is not possible to visit Ukraine during these dates”.

He stressed that the UN Secretary-General has so far taken no action to send the mission to Ukraine.

“But right now, Iranian drones continue to destroy our country’s critical infrastructure objects, creating terrible conditions for the life of peaceful citizens in the middle of winter. I understand that it is not so cold in New York at the moment, it is light there, heats up all the time. But I will remind you that what the UN is currently doing in the secretariat, this is an unacceptable delay and allows for impunity for the actions of Iran and Russia. This is a violation of a resolution by the Council of security. The UN must explain the reasons for the delay and inaction”.
