Kieran Richardson, former Manchester United player, has expressed high praise for Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, two of the greatest players in the world, with whom he shared the dressing room at the Red Devils.
However, when pushed to make a choice, the former England international ultimately named Messi as the best player of all time.
“They are both the greatest of all time (GOAT – Greatest Of All Time). But if I had to choose one, I would choose Messi. Although I know Ronaldo and played with him, I like him. Both are incredible, both are GOAT”Richardson said during an interview on Steven Sulley’s podcast, himself linked to Manchester United from 2001 to 2007.
“They will be eternally recognized, but Messi won this World Cup. It’s huge to have won the World Cup, because before that people were saying: “Yes, but he hasn’t won it yet”. He couldn’t be considered the best of all time because [Diego] Maradona had won it, Pelé had won it. Now there is no doubt, he has reached the top, something that every footballer aspires to achieve.”
“Even though each of them receives individual praise and has won the best player of the year award several times, when you are a footballer you dream of winning a World Cup. This is the greatest achievement you could hope for.”he concluded.
