Kidnapping of Saudi Citizen in Beirut – Authorities Promise Punishment

The Lebanese Minister of the Interior, Bassam Mawlawi, announced today, Monday, that he has been following up with the Internal Security Forces since yesterday the issue of the “kidnapping” of a Saudi citizen in Beirut.

Mawlawi added on his Twitter account, “What happened affects Lebanon’s relationship with its brothers, and the perpetrators will be punished harshly,” stressing that the country’s authorities work “always and with an iron fist to liberate any citizen who is subjected to any harm on Lebanese soil.”

The Minister of Interior stated that he is in “contact with the smallest details” with the Saudi ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari.

Mawlawi said, in an intervention with Al-Arabiya channel, on Monday evening, that the security forces have been following up since yesterday the issue of the kidnapped Saudi citizen, stressing that this issue affects Lebanon’s relationship with the brothers.

He revealed that the kidnapped Saudi citizen’s phone was monitored in more than one area in Beirut, but he denied monitoring the signal of the kidnapped phone on the road to the Bekaa region or in the southern suburbs.

He continued, “We inform the Saudi ambassador of all the details about the case,” stressing that “the purpose of the kidnapping of the Saudi citizen has not yet been revealed.” He continued, “We will not let the issue of the kidnapping of the Saudi citizen pass without a deterrent account.”

And the Saudi Embassy in Lebanon stated, in a statement, on Monday, that it had received a communication from the family of a citizen who lost contact with him at dawn on Sunday, Dhu al-Qi’dah 8, 1444 AH, corresponding to May 28, 2023.

According to Lebanese sources, the kidnapped Saudi citizen works for Saudi Airlines. The sources added that the kidnappers of the Saudi citizen in Beirut demanded a ransom.

According to Al-Arabiya’s information, the kidnapped Saudi citizen is called “M.M”, and he was seen for the last time near the “Al-Bayal” complex in downtown Beirut. He resides in Lebanon and works for Saudi Airlines.

Information indicates that he was kidnapped at dawn with his car while he was on his way to his home in Aramoun after being watched. The family of the kidnapped Saudi citizen received a call from his phone number, in which his kidnappers demanded $400,000 in exchange for his release.
