Sixteen administrative employees of the police in the Mexican state of Chiapas were released on Friday. They had been kidnapped three days earlier.
The employees were kidnapped while traveling on a bus through Chiapas on Tuesday. Seventeen female bus passengers were released by the perpetrators.
The kidnappers allegedly demanded that three state security officials be fired. They would have ties to members of an armed movement.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has pledged to launch an investigation into the three. In return, the hostages of police officers had to be released.
