An operation against acts of banditry, especially kidnappings in the Alaotra Mangoro region, is launched by the police. 300 members of the mixed security forces, including gendarmes and soldiers, are carrying out an operation called “harato” in the districts of Amparafaravola and Ambatondrazaka in the Alaotra Mangoro region. After a series of armed attacks and kidnappings, a curfew was imposed in these two districts. An operational command post has been placed at Morarano Chrome for a few days. Three people were kidnapped in this commune and are still in the hands of the kidnappers. The latter demand a ransom of 50 million ariary from the family of the victims.
