Kickers Offenbach banned the “top game curse” in the Southwest Football Regionalliga and prevailed against SSV Ulm in 1846. The OFC thus climbed to second place.
Offenbach – Kickers Offenbach has banned its “top game curse” in the regional soccer league Southwest and prevailed 1-0 (1-0) against SSV Ulm 1846 thanks to a dream goal by Maik Vetter in the pursuit duel. The OFC thus climbed to second place.
A dream goal, a tactical trick, a bit of luck and an outstanding fighting performance brought Kickers Offenbach in the eighth attempt against one of the current top six teams in the Southwest Football Region. In the 1-0 (1-0) home win against SSV Ulm in 1846, Maik Vetter scored the hit of the day with a shot in the corner and ensured that the OFC replaced the “Spatzen” as the best team of the year.
Ristic to victory: OFC was the “slightly happier” team – Ulmer determined the game
In the table, the Kickers not only outstripped Ulm, but also TSV Steinbach Haiger (1: 1 against Pirmasens) and are now second. Because front runners SC Freiburg II won 1-0 at TSG Balingen, the gap to first place is still six points.
Sreto Ristic was nevertheless overjoyed. “We knew what to expect,” said the OFC coach. In addition, his team was told that, unlike Ulm, they had an English week behind them. “But we accepted that excellently and threw ourselves into every ball.” The OFC was the “slightly happier” team because the guests were decisive for the game, as Ristic admitted. However, his team did what counts in the end: They scored the decisive goal. And what one.
OFC wins against Ulm: Offenbach’s penalty area was mostly the end of the line
The towering Maik Vetter drove the ball forward over the right side, pulled in, played a one-two with center forward Elia Soriano and pulled from around 20 meters with the weaker left foot. The ball landed at an unbearable angle – 1-0 for the OFC (26th), who had previously given a hundred percent when Soriano headed past completely free (16th). At this point in time, the kickers could have been behind. OFC goalkeeper Stephan Flauder was already defeated in a counterattack by Ulm via Rochelt, but Ronny Marcos, who returned to the starting line-up after recovering from injury, cleared the line (8th).
Ulm had more play and pushed hard for the equalizer after the break. The Offenbach penalty area was mostly the end of the line, so Flauder almost only had to intervene in long-range shots. And they were rarely dangerous either. When a deflected shot from Rochelt, the Kickers keeper was already on the way to the other corner, but steered the ball around the post.
OFC saves a narrow lead – Ulm coach: “more effective team has won”
Ultimately, the OFC saved the narrow lead with great commitment over time. To Holger Bachthaler’s annoyance. “It wasn’t the better team that won, but the more effective team,” summed up the Ulm coach. “You can’t play football better than us in Offenbach. The result is very annoying. We would have deserved more than zero points and would not have been satisfied with a draw either. So a very nicely played out action was enough to decide the game. “
The fact that Ulm had more play was taken into account by the Kickers, as managing director Thomas Sobotzik explained: “The aim was to give a strong opponent a certain amount of control in order to be there in the crucial areas.” that there was no discharge in the second half. The Kickers made up for that with their dedication.
OFC victory paid dearly: Deniz and Bojaj suspended for the game against FC Gießen
The victory was paid dearly, however. Tunay Deniz and Florent Bojaj saw the tenth and fifth yellow cards respectively and are therefore suspended for the game next Saturday (2 p.m.) at FC Gießen. The use of Lucas Albrecht is also uncertain. The regular central defender performed well in six but was replaced due to an ankle injury. (Christian Düncher)
