Kickers Aschaffenburg defeats SB DJK Wuerzburg 3-1 with strong defensive performance and disciplined tactics.

In front of 100 spectators, including Yvonne Söser, chairwoman of the district women’s and girls’ committee, and Ruth Müller, head of the cup match, the highly motivated women from Aschaffenburg showed what must have been their best performance of the season. That was also necessary against the defensively strong guests with their strong striker Sabine Scheugenpflug

In addition to the fighting attitude and enormous willingness to run, the key to success was that the team implemented the tactical guidelines of coach Bernd Gramminger in a disciplined manner. Stella Jäger, Kira Wallraff and Laura Fleckenstein alternately stayed by Scheugenpflug’s side and decisively narrowed their circles. Goalkeeper Romy Geppert radiated great calm and security, defender Monika Schuhmann had things under control, the midfield worked tirelessly in both directions and the strikers delivered.

A game worth seeing developed with a lot of movement on both sides, in which there was lively back and forth. The hosts then took the lead in the 30th minute: goalkeeper Vanessa Kempf squirted into a cross pass from Würzburg in front of their penalty area and shot dryly into the far corner.

Scheugenpflug showed in the 45th minute that you can’t completely unregister a class striker like her for more than 90 minutes: Somehow the ball came to her in the six-yard box and despite being under pressure she managed to put the ball in the goal.

When trying to defend herself, Laura Fleckenstein injured herself so badly that she couldn’t continue. After the restart, she was replaced by Stefanie Schwindt, who raised the alarm with her speed and shook up the Würzburg defense several times.

In the 50th minute, Chantal Kuhn circled a free kick from the left to the short corner, but DJK goalkeeper Carolin Armgart was there. Shortly afterwards, the Kickers took the lead again: Tamia Kraus converted a pass from the six-yard box to make it 2-1. Twelve minutes later, Kuhn hit a diagonal pass into the penalty area, a DJK player stepped over the ball and Kempf, who was lurking behind it, said thank you and made it 3-1.

In the final quarter of an hour, Würzburg broke the back four and threw everything forward, but the Aschaffenburg defense held up. Scheugenpflug missed a pass in the Kickers penalty area in the 84th minute, but her shot was blocked by Monika Schuhmann. In the 89th minute Scheugenpflug put the ball on the crossbar and Lysann Väth was able to block the follow-up shot.
