Kick will launch its own currency to pay viewers to watch streams

In a bid to attract more users and compete directly with Twitch, Kick plans to launch a currency of its own that will allow viewers to receive payments while enjoying their favorite streams. This was announced by Adin Ross, one of the platform’s main figures, who detailed that “Kick wants to launch the Kick Currency, which will allow viewers to earn money for watching broadcasts.” This initiative, still without a confirmed launch date, promises to be a step forward in the interaction model between creators and their audience.

Like Twitch Bits, which allow users to support their favorite content creators, the Kick Currency will follow a similar scheme, but with an innovative twist: instead of being used only for streamers, this new currency will be intended to directly reward viewers. According to Ross, “not everyone will earn money for watching, but streamers will be able to reward certain users with Kick, which they can then convert into real money.”

This move is part of Kick’s strategy to differentiate itself from Twitch, which continues to lead the streaming market despite attempts by other platforms such as YouTube and Facebook Gaming. In addition, Kick has implemented other important changes, allowing creators greater freedom in aspects such as VTubers’ clothing, something that Twitch has recently restricted.

Without a doubt, the introduction of this new currency in Kick could mark a before and after in the way in which viewers interact with creators and in the general experience of streaming platforms.
