Magdeburg l Matthias Deumelandt, former regional league kicker of 1. FC Magdeburg and currently active in the regional league club Ummendorfer SV, has been inviting people to soccer tennis on the banks of the Magdeburg Elbe for a good two weeks.
The 34-year-old called the WhatsApp messenger service almost two weeks ago and asked for a duel in the open air. “The first time we called up there were 30 inquiries, which really surprised me. Since we have occasionally played football tennis in a small group on Sundays in the past, I just wanted to continue this. Under the current conditions, this is only possible in the form of one-on-one, which is also a lot of fun, ”said the midfielder.
Brendel travels from Bremen
Old companions and opponents of Deumelandt finally met below the State Chancellery in order to strike a technically fine blade in adverse external conditions. “Football simply connects people and everyone really wanted to. And of course everyone wants to win and loose sayings are inevitable. Marcel Brendel even came from Bremen especially to play a game, ”reports Deumelandt, who also brings professional footballers together with the“ CHANCE4TALENTS ”network.
So far, Andreas Böhme, Philipp Hennecke, Marcel Brendel, Mark Schröder, Christopher Garz, Nils Kauffmann and Mathias Rhode have made a pilgrimage to the red earth for a duel. “That’s the great thing about this variant, you can basically set up this network anywhere and get started right away. Since there are still some inquiries, there could be more hot duels, ”Deumelandt looks ahead.
