Kick Out Zwarte Piet files a report after disturbances in Volendam

Kick Out Zwarte Piet (KOZP) today reported open violence during their protest on the market in Volendam, two weeks ago.

“Among other things, a report has been made for public violence, the prevention of a permitted demonstration by threats of violence, insult, threats and group insult,” said foreman Jerry Afriyie of Kick Out Zwarte Piet to NH News.

The demonstrators were on the market in Volendam on Saturday 4 December to protest against Zwarte Piet and what they call ‘structural racism’ in the village. The demonstration was not announced in advance.

Oliebollen and fish waste

During the protest it became clear that some market traders and Volendam residents were not happy with the demonstrators. They were said to be attacked by at least 400 residents and pelted with eggs, oliebollen and fish waste. The buses used to transport the demonstrators were also damaged.
