The HLA MEISTERLIGA will also start in Linz in the 2024/25 season. Next Saturday, August 24th at 8:20 p.m.the IMMOunited HLA SUPERCUP 2024 will be held, in which HC LINZ AG as champions and Handball WEST WIEN as cup winners of the 2023/24 season will fight for the first title of the new season.
Like last year, the event will again take place as a double event with the WHA SUPERCUP. Both the IMMOunited HLA SUPERCUP and the WHA SUPERCUP will be shown live on ORF SPORT+ & krone.tv.
HC LINZ AG, who finally managed to hold the championship trophy in their hands for the first time in 28 years, will face newly promoted Handball WEST WIEN in front of their home crowd next Saturday. For the Viennese, who not only won the championship title in the HLA CHALLENGE last season, but also became the first second division team to win the cup, participating in the SUPERCUP is a first. For the Upper Austrians, it is also only their second Supercup appearance after last year’s defeat against ALPLA HC Hard.
This will be a repeat of the Master League final of the 2022/23 season. After the departures of Mislav Grgic, Arnad Hamzic, Nicolas Paulnsteiner and Elias Derdak, Linz have signed new players: with backcourt player Roberts Rancans, winger Matija Car and pivot Sinan Alkic, there are three new players in the Linz squad. Roland Marouschek’s team, which is going into the new season with an average age of under 20, is considered an underdog against the champions from Linz, but wants to go into the game with a lot of courage and self-confidence.
Coach Milan Vunjak, coach of HC LINZ AG: “We expect a tough and balanced game. West Vienna is a team with a lot of energy and full commitment, very well-rehearsed with many super talented players. It is clear that we only have a chance of winning the Supercup if we play for 60 minutes with focus and absolute willingness. We have to find simple solutions for their aggressive defense in attack and be stable, firm and determined in our defense. Our goal is to bring the Supercup title to Linz after the championship cup.”
Andreas Dräger, Handball WEST WIEN: “Our preparation went very well and we have continued to come together as a team. We are looking forward to opening the season with such a cool event and are all excited about the duel with Linz.”
