A car arrives from South Korea that could undermine the Fiat Panda’s dominance in the city car segment.
The Fiat Panda has always been one of the most loved cars by Italian motorists. For many it represents the safe purchase, that model and that brand you can always trust. A ‘domain’ which, however, could soon falter as a very dangerous competitor is arriving from South Korea which could push many potential buyers to prefer it to the Panda.
KIA is in fact going through a phase of great expansion. The Korean house is very ambitious and aims to cover all segments, including that of city cars. For this reason, between now and 2027, it plans to launch 15 different models, including one in direct competition with the Panda. Furthermore, the great attention that KIA is putting on the electric market indicates the will to do an aggressive commercial policy especially on the European market.
Although KIA has no intention of abandoning other types of engine, including hybrids, the attention that the Korean company is putting on the electric segment is undoubted. The stated goal is to get at least 50% of its sales from this type of car by 2030. An ambitious project, but one that, with the new model, would seem within reach. This naturally gnawed away market shares from direct and potential competitors, including FIAT.
KIA launches the challenge: a new city car is coming
At the moment the city car segment is covered by the Picanto, with an internal combustion engine. During this year, KIA will launch a new version of the same model, but a new hybrid or electric car should arrive in 2024. The intention of KIA is in fact going to cover that market segment with a new model that is extremely competitive also in terms of costs.
