New York, Apr 5 (EFE).- The South Korean manufacturer Kia unveiled this Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show its new EV9 model, a large electric SUV that seeks to become the flagship of the brand throughout the world.
The EV9, which will go on sale in the United States later this year, is Kia’s first vehicle with three rows of seats. It has a capacity to accommodate six or seven people, depending on the configuration.
The vehicle is developed on the E-GMP electric vehicle (EV) platform and features a fourth-generation battery. Its 800V electrical architecture allows the use of ultra-fast chargers that fill the batteries from 10% to 80% in less than 25 minutes.
The EV9 will be available with three engines. Standard is a 76.1 kWh battery coupled to a 160 kW motor, equivalent to 215 horsepower, with rear-wheel drive.
The second motorization is a 99.8 kWh battery that can be coupled to the 160 kW rear motor and provides a range of 482 kilometers. The same high-capacity battery can be coupled to two electric motors with a power of 283 kW, or 379 horsepower, and four-wheel drive.
In addition, the EV9 factory incorporates Digital Key technology that allows the vehicle to be opened and used with Apple and Samsung mobile phones or with NFC cards. The digital key can be shared with other mobiles through text messages.
In 2022, Kia sold around 80,000 electric vehicles around the world, with a quarter delivered in the United States.
The company has set a goal of selling 1.6 million EVs by 2030.
