The EV6 is a collaboration between all three Kia studios in its global design network in Namyang (Korea), Frankfurt (Germany) and Irvine (California, USA).
The EV6 is endowed with a unique design inspired by the world of crossovers and built on the brand’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The EV6 is Kia’s first electric car to be influenced by the new design philosophy, and it embodies the company’s move towards electrification.
“The EV6 is the first specialized Kia electric vehicle to demonstrate human-centered, advanced design and electrified power. We are confident that the EV6 will be an attractive and significant model in the new electric car market,” said Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Kia Global. head of the design center. “With the EV6, we sought to create a special, impressive design using a combination of sophisticated high technology and clean, rich shapes, while providing the unique space that a futuristic electric car can provide.”
Kia’s vehicles of the future will have an integrated next-generation user interface through design and innovation, as well as advances in lighting, tactile and car connectivity, to help customers connect with their car.
The design of the Kia EV6 headlights includes a multi-level dynamic light module. Beneath it is an air intake hatch that visually widens the front of the car. To optimize airflow from the front, part of the flow through these hatches is routed under the car’s smooth floor, which helps to improve aerodynamics.
The profile view shows the design aesthetics borrowed from the crossovers, which is at the same time modern, delicate and aerodynamic. The sloping windshield gives the look dynamism and purposefulness, while the wide rear wings add volume to the car. The side profile of the car is visually extended by a characteristic line that extends along the lower edge of the door and stays upwards at the rear wheel arches.
The rear of the machine, designed to achieve the best possible aerodynamic performance, includes rear body pillars with glossy black inlays that visually increase the area of the glazed surfaces. There is a spoiler on the roof, which directs the air flow downwards, directly above the spoiler installed in the car’s unique rear light bus.
The new electric car is built on Kia’s specialized E-GMP platform, so the EV6 will have more space in the cabin than previous Kia electric cars, as they were created on the architecture of existing models.
One of the brightest elements of the new interior is the curved screen of the high-definition audiovisual and navigation system (AVN) without joints. The simple shape of the wide, curved screen and the narrow instrument panel give the room a feeling of spaciousness. Stretching from the steering wheel across the center of the car, it includes a set of tools directly in front of the driver, as well as information, entertainment and navigation options above the center console.
Under the large central screen, riders have access to the interior heating, ventilation and air conditioning system with push-buttons, but under this unit the front panel tilts forward, giving the front passengers a sense of space.
The seats are thin and are decorated with a modern, visually interesting and durable fabric made of recycled plastic. The design of the seats further increases the free space in the cabin.
The world premiere of “EV6” will take place this month at a special online event.
