Kia produced the ‘EV3 Study Car’, which presents a vision for the next generation of environmentally friendly vehicles using environmentally friendly materials, and released a birth story video on the channel official YouTube on the 17th.

The EV3 Research Car is a mobile experimental model of environmentally friendly vehicle materials that designed the interior and exterior parts of the vehicle using discarded resources and natural materials, and was created to prove the possibility of developing vehicle products that contribute to tackling global environmental problems. .

This research car, produced by the Basic Materials Research Center at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia AVP (Advanced Vehicle Platform) headquarters, was made using recycled plastic and bio-based materials -materials to replace some of the internal, external and chassis plastic parts of the existing ones. EV3.

22 recycled technologies and natural materials were developed to produce this research car, and these technologies were applied to 69 key components of the existing EV3.

The EV3 Research Car uses the ‘Car-to-Car’ method to recycle plastic recovered from scrap cars. KATUKA is a way to crush and sort waste car plastic to extract only the essential materials, or chemically decompose it and return it to plastic raw materials to be recycled into new vehicle parts. In this study car, plastic recovered from junk cars was reborn as parts such as bumpers, frunk, and door trim.

For the interior of the vehicle, natural inedible materials such as ‘apple skin’ made from discarded apple peels and ‘leather based on waste mushroom media’ were used.

Apple Skin is an eco-friendly material that can replace existing leather by recycling apple waste from the food industry, and has been applied to steering wheels and vehicle consoles. Mushroom-based leather was made using mushroom waste badges removed from mushroom farms and used for wireless charging pads inside vehicles. These non-edible natural resources contribute to increasing the value of resource distribution by reducing the use of chemicals compared to existing leather.

Composite material manufacturing technology (NFRP) containing natural fibers and biopolymers derived from nature has been applied to the roof and exterior trim of the vehicle. This is part of a natural material that can contribute to energy savings in textile manufacturing, so it is rated as a low carbon material.

Kia held an ‘Environmentally Friendly Materials and Vehicle Exhibition’ with leading domestic and foreign product companies at the Namyang Research Center for two days on the 13th and 14th, unveiling the research car made to employees and sharing its An environmentally friendly vision for automotive products.

A Kia official said, “The EV3 Research Car is the result of responsible research for sustainable resource distribution,” and added, “We will continue to expand and develop low-carbon and recycled material technologies to ensure eco -relationship of major vehicle components. .”
