Kia Telluride SUVs Recalled for Unintended Movement Issue: What Owners Need to Know

Full-size Kia Telluride SUVs can surprise their owners by leaving a parking space on their own.

Incorrect assembly of the intermediate shaft and right front drive may cause a parked vehicle to move on its own. Both shafts do not fully mesh and over time the countershaft splines become damaged. This is what causes the car to move unintentionally if the driver simply leaves the selector lever in P and does not apply the parking brake.

Kia first identified the potential problem in April 2022. Over the next two years, 16 cases were recorded when parked Tellurides began to roll in Parking mode, making grinding sounds. There are no reports of any injuries or accidents related to this issue, but a recall will be initiated soon. In total, it could affect 427 thousand SUVs.
