Kia plans to start production of prototypes of medium-sized military vehicles later this year and to pass a test evaluation under the responsibility of the Korean government in 2021. The manufacturer’s goal is military deployment from 2024 in connection with the standardization process and initial production tests.

The Korean military plans to replace the currently used cars with payloads of 2.5 and 5 tons. The basis of the armored specials is to be a special platform, allegedly related to the Mohave SUV. Kia states that the final car will use a “bare chassis” from Mohave.

A seven-liter diesel engine will be used for propulsion. The equipment of the prototype, which is currently only visible for visualization, will include, for example, an automatic transmission, ABS, anti-slip functions, rear parking assistant, 360 ° monitoring system, satellite navigation or seat heating.

Kia is not a newcomer to this area. It has produced a number of different vehicles for the Korean and other foreign armies with a payload of 0.25 tons, 1.25 tons, 2.5 tons and 5 tons. So far, it has offered nine different model types and 100 derived designs with a total production volume of 140,000 military vehicles.
