The Kia EV6 crossover was among the favorites and sets a slight advantage over the Renault Mgane E-Tech and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Fourth place for the endothermic model only, the Peugeot 308

For the third consecutive year, there was no need to travel to Geneva to discover the Car of The Year chosen by the international jury of car journalists: it was the appointment that preceded the Swiss Motor Show, which may not even take place anymore. Pandemic effect: and here it isthe seven finalists in the same space – also in Geneva – with the hope cultivated by the president of the exhibition, Sandro Mesquita, of seeing each other in presence in 2023. In a funny head-to-head, in the end the Kia EV6one of the six zero-emissions finalists: in the squad, only the Peugeot 308 defended the fate of thermal engines and finished fourth. The Renault Mgane E-Tech seemed to be able to win, especially for the very high score received by the French journalists, but both the EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 held up and climbed point after point. Ultimately, the victory of the first is due to the votes of the Spanish and Italian journalists. Final results: EV6 279 points, Mgane E-Tech 265, Ioniq 5 261. The other finalists are far behind: Peugeot 308 with 191 points, Skoda Enyaq IV at 185, Ford Mustang Mach-E at 150 and Cupra Born at 144.

Three power variants

A historic success for Kia: the Korean manufacturer had achieved a third place as the maximum result in the 2019 edition with the Kia Ceed. The new Kia EV6 is a model of personality, a hatchback with a striking front and an elusive roof that give it a coup-like ensemble, with the accessibility of a crossover. All in a very relaxing context: highly effective level 2 autonomous driving and eliminates a good share of traffic stress; the infotainment systemwith two curved screens side by side, simple to use despite the absence of physical keys. Three power variants: 229, 325 and 585 horsepower. Autonomy? That declared reaches 528 kmbut in real life there are about 400. Charging can be very fast: from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes with ultra-fast charging stations. The price list starts from 49.500 eurO.
