The award was first made in 1964. Since then, it has been much discussed, much talked about and not least highly valued by the car manufacturers who have gone to the top.
There is a lot of prestige in being named Car of the Year in Europe. Of course, this also has a great PR value for the winner.
Now the result of the year has just been announced. Of the 39 cars that were originally nominated, seven were in the final.
These were the Cupra Born, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Peugeot 308, Renault Megane E-Tech and Skoda Enyaq.
Historical result
And which car went all the way to the top? Yes, Kia EV6. It’s a victory with historical buzz. Never before has a car from South Korea won this competition. That says a lot about the fact that the car world is changing.
– Traditionally, European car manufacturers have scored high here. Jury members have also been accused many times of voting tactically. But Japanese cars have gradually managed to stand out quite well. And now we see that a Korean car can beat everyone else and go all the way to the top, says Broom’s car expert Benny Christensen.
