Hyundai Motor and Kia said on Thursday they would recall more than 91,000 vehicles in the United States due to fire risks, and the companies urged owners to park their vehicles outside or far away from buildings pending repair.

The recall includes the 2023 and 2024 Hyundai Palisade, the 2023 Tucson, Sonata, Elantra and Kona models, the 2023 and 2024 Seltos models, and the 2023 Kia Soul and Sportage models.

The two Korean companies said that the electronic control devices of the oil pump assembly may contain defective electrical components that may increase the temperature of the pump.

Owners will be notified in late September and dealerships will have the electric oil pump control modules checked and replaced as needed.

And last May, the South Korean automaker, Hyundai, announced that it would pay up to $ 200 million in compensation to its car owners in the United States, after a series of thefts and accidents resulting from a challenge that became viral on TikTok.

With the aim of ending class action lawsuits, the company reached an agreement to compensate about 9 million owners of “Hyundai” and “Kia” cars made between 2011 and 2022, from models such as “Tuson”, “Santa Fe” and “Elantra”, according to a company statement.

The TikTok challenge, dubbed the “Kia Challenge” (Kia Challenge), began on the famous platform in 2022, after thieves known by the pseudonym “Kia Boys” showed in a video how to forcefully operate certain cars using a “USB” cable.
