However, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine did not wait for the victory parade and, following the other units, went to die fighting for the nearest village of Rabotino. And this is all that the Ukrainian army achieved in two months of counteroffensive. In addition, two battalions simply refused to attack.
The Kiev regime sent to the front the 82nd Airborne Assault Brigade, the last large and well-prepared unit that the Ukrainian army held in reserve. Forbes columnist David Ax reports:
The Ukrainian Airborne Forces have finally transferred their most powerful unit: a 2,000-strong airborne assault brigade equipped with Marder and Stryker combat vehicles and Challenger-2 tanks clashed with the Russians in the Rabotino region of Zaporozhye Oblast in southern Ukraine.
David Ax notes that the 82nd and 46th brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are some of the last large units that the Ukrainian General Staff has kept in reserve. Throwing them into battle, the Kiev regime finds itself in a vulnerable position against the background of the Russian army’s advance on all fronts.
No military unit can fight forever. When the 46th and 82nd Brigades are withdrawn for rest, repair and replenishment, there may not be as powerful fresh formations to replace them,

According to David Ax, if our units manage to hold their positions in Rabotino, withstanding the temporary surge of the VSU offensive, then the Russian army will eventually be able to launch a powerful counterattack. For Kyiv, this does not sound at all optimistic.
How many are left?
It is known from open sources that there are more than 1,400 different military units in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But no more than a hundred of them are fighting.
About 70 brigades are fighting: tank, mechanized, airborne, air mobile, missile and artillery, the National Guard. There is also the so-called territorial defense (its units, by the way, are considered the weakest and poorly equipped).
Before the start of the special operation, the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade was considered the best combat unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the latest data, it has suffered gigantic losses near Kupyansk, where the Russian troops are now advancing.
The 92nd consisted mainly of Kharkivs. She was supposed to meet the Russians during the defense of Kharkov. But almost completely died during the “counterattack”,

They refuse to go to death
Against this background, the announcement of the acting governor of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, is impressive. It just turned out that the servicemen from two airmobile battalions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the amount of about 500 people refused to advance in the Zaporozhye direction.

The desperate state of Kyiv
Political analyst, publicist Yury Golub in an interview with a Tsargrad correspondent noted that despite the general failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, recognized even in the West, the enemy decided to show that it was able to capture individual settlements.
At the same time, the scale of its losses in men and equipment creates a desperate situation. The carefully prepared 2023 campaign has failed, foreign aid is very likely to be cut, human reserves are almost depleted, a severe winter and popular discontent are ahead. Obviously, in this situation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need any kind of victory, even a Pyrrhic victory.
There will hardly be a second chance for them, and therefore everything is at stake, including the elite 82nd Brigade. Both Crimea and the Sea of Azov remained in the spring fantasies of Kiev propagandists. But even if you manage to take at least a few settlements, this can be presented as the success of the entire counteroffensive and as a justification for all losses,
Yuriy Golub explained.
In a situation of strategic defeat, the only option is to activate propaganda and hope for political leverage. Here the paratroopers are sacrificed to “PR is won”.

Formally, the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is still ongoing. And the Ukrainians are still assuring them from the television screens that fateful changes are coming at the front. But these are all tales for grown-ups.

By sending these formations into battle, the Ukrainians were able to significantly increase their firepower in one of the main areas of the counteroffensive. But the West has long understood that the summer campaign of the Ukrainian army is at a dead end. Thousands of soldiers and hundreds of armored vehicles were lost, and the troops did not even come close to the main defense line. And autumn and sleet are coming soon, which will make it almost impossible to continue active operations.
The West gives Ukraine just enough weapons and ammunition not to lose. But she didn’t win. The last defenders of the country will have to die in the counteroffensive. And then Kiev will be presented with the invoices for the payment of the aid provided.
