Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov, after reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open, supported the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh).
After victories over the American Francis Tiafoe (6:3, 6:4, 3:6, 7:6 (11:9)), instead of the words traditional for tennis players about emotions from the results of the match, Khachanov wrote on the glass through which the player was filmed on the court by a television camera, wrote “Artsakh, stay strong” (“Artsakh, hold on”).
Khachanov’s next opponent in the tournament will be Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (31st seed).
In mid-December Yerevan accused in the overlap of the Lachin corridor, the only transport artery connecting Armenia and the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh, a group of unidentified people from Azerbaijan who introduced themselves as eco-activists. Baku said that the road was blocked by “the peacekeeping contingent of Russia, temporarily deployed on the territory of Azerbaijan.” Armenia accused Russian peacekeepers in the failure to fulfill their obligations to control the corridor.
